| Queen was a one-of-a-kind band. All the
members wrote songs, played instruments and sang. The best album
of theirs was undoubtedly A night at the Opera. There
were other albums that came close but this was the biggie. It
was the album that gave us "Bohemian Rhapsody" and for
that alone, greatness was achieved. It also had the hit
"My Best Friend". Both songs made it to their greatest
hits collection but it's what didn't make it to that CD that
made this album great. "Death on two legs" is probably
the most awesome hard rock piece of work they ever put together.
Then there's "I'm in Love With My Car" and "Year
of '39" to give it that much more of a push towards
greatness. But then there's "The Prophet's Song", to
really set this album apart from the rest. "The
Prophet's Song" features a vocal phenomenon. It's layers of
vocals mixed with various echo effects that has to be heard in
order to be believed. After this album I'd recommend News of
the World" (1977), which has "We Will
Rock You" and "We Are the Champions". Then
I'd recommend Jazz (1978) and Sheer Heart Attack (1974).
The best compilation CD to purchase would be Classic Queen (1992). |
