When playing the violin, it is easy to fall into some bad habits. Don't feel bad, almost everyone has fallen into these bad habits. The key is to acknowledge the bad habits and then find a way to break them. You want to do this before it slows down your progress in learning to play the violin.

First, you need to identify the bad habit. If you don't already know what this is, you can have a friend or family member watch you play and see if they can determine the problem. To do this, you need to play a few different songs through slowly and concentrate on what you are doing.

Remember, there is a cause behind every mistake. A lot of times, it has to do with your posture and finger movements. Or, it could be as simple as not practicing the song enough, so you haven't been able to get all the kinks out yet. A major problem could be if you feel rushed. When a person is rushed, they tend to become impatient and the problems just begin to role. Make sure to relax when you are learning to play the violin. You can do some relaxation stretches or meditation before playing. This will tend to help tremendously.

Once you have found the problem, you need to work through it. Start by playing slowly and using your metronome. You need to pay attention and play the problem areas through very slowly in order to get them done correctly. This will take a lot of practice and patients, but it is well worth it.

Remember bad habits are hard to break. However, it is very important to correct them as soon as possible. These mistakes can cripple your music for several years. They will also slow down your learning. Go slow and take your time. You will never regret it.
