| Universal Studio's made a bundle in the
thirties from their popular monster movies but by the time the
forties came around, that popularity began to fade. So, after the waning of the success with its
lineup of monsters, Universal Studio's decided to try
something new with them--a comedy. And who better to
do it with than Bud Abbott and Lou Costello? Not only did it
work, but it was an absolute riot. In this movie you have
the Wolfman (played by Lon Chaney Jr.), Dracula (played by
Bela Lugosi) and the Frankenstein Monster (Glenn Strange). It's one of my
favorite Abbott and Costello films. My favorite scene is
when Lou Costello is unknowingly being pursued by the Wolfman.
The Wolfman leaps out after him and misses him, all while Lou is
completely oblivious to the fact. Now the special effects
are typical of that time so you won't be impressed at all by the
transitioning effects used to change Dracula into a bat. In
fact, the effect itself is laughable by today's standards.
However, you will find that the humor is just as relevant today as
it was then. |
