| This is a very underrated movie as far as I'm
concerned. It was so original at the time. It's
about a Fantasy Island type of resort (before fantasy island was
thought of) called Delos. A high-tech Fantasy land that
offers its visitors a choice of three different time periods like:
Roman World, Medieval World and Westworld. The movie
obviously gets its name from the last one listed. James
Brolin and Richard Benjamin play two vacationing buddies who
choose the Westworld option, where they play out their fantasies
of the Wild West. Delos is populated by realistic, humanlike
robots that are programmed to cater to every guest's fantasy.
Yul Brynner stars as a robot that's programmed to play the role of
a black-hatted gunslinger. It's a blast at first when the
guys are called into a gunfight by the Brynner-bot and they win
the draw each time. Until, all of the machines start to go
berserk. The robot gunfighter no longer wants to play, he
really wants to kill. He then chases Richard Benjamin's
character all over Delos. This is The Terminator long
before the Terminator came out. A lot of stuff that keeps
you on the edge of your seat. |
