| Planet of the Apes featured a planet
where apes ruled and man was the beast. Charlton Heston
stars as Colonel George Taylor, an astronaut who crash lands on
this planet and is taken captive by the talking apes. He
makes multiple attempts at escaping and finally succeeds in the
end. However, the discovery at the end of the
film breaks his little heart. Roddy McDowall and Kim
Hunter star as Taylor's ape friends. The film not only won
an Oscar for the makeup but it launched a series of movies, a
television series, an animated Saturday morning cartoon and raked
in countless dollars in merchandising. The sequels just
weren't the same quality because the budget for each movie was
basically cut in half with each successive film. The first
is not only the most original but by-far the best one of the
series. With the second best being Beneath the Planet of
the Apes, the second in the series. By the time
Escape from the Planet of the Apes (the third film in the
series) was released, you really longed to escape from the
Planet of the Apes movies. |
