| The Time Machine was based on the H.G.
Wells classic about time travel, that was first published in 1895.
Rod Taylor plays a scientist who travels into the future, where a
race of people, called the Eloi, have been forced to hide from the
brutal Morlocks, a race of people eating monsters. The
makeup and the effects in this movie are dwarfed by today's
technology but the story still shines through. I believe it
takes more than special effects to make a Sci-Fi classic because I
just feel that you have to begin with a good story or original
idea. This movie contained what were original ideas at the
time that have since become over-used and abused by the Sci-Fi
genre. The concept of time travel alone has been used on
countless occasions in who knows how many movies and television
shows. This story was an idea that was born long before it
became a tired old concept. The movie still conveys many of
the points Wells hoped to convey and therefore, I believe that the
movie is still relevant on that basis alone. |
