The Duke plays a rancher who is deserted by his regular help
because of a local gold rush and is forced to hire 11 young boys
for a cattle drive across 400 miles. Wayne's character is
tough on the boys but he moulds them into the kind of stuff
hardened cowboys are made of. Of course the boys kind of
resent his hard-as-nails approach at first but come to respect
him by the end of the film. Bruce Dern plays a bit of a
villain in this movie but let's just say that the low-down dirty
varmint gets what's
coming to him in the end. The movie also features Roscoe
Lee Browne and Colleen Dewhurst. No self-respecting fan of
Wayne should go without seeing this movie.
